CDSMI - Water Service Line Inventory

The Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399, as amended, requires that water supplies develop and maintain a Complete Distribution Systems Materials Inventory (CDSMI) and submit the inventory to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) by October 16, 2024.

The purpose of the CDSMI is to characterize , record, and maintain a comprehensive inventory of distribution system materials ( watermains, valves, hydrants, etc.), including service line materials on both public and private property. A reliable inventory of potable water service lines materials is important for effective asset management, and identification and replacement of lead services in our water system.

Information gathered through random material verification processes provides:

  • A basis for evaluating the reliability of existing service line records.
  • Identifying areas where additional physical verification may be needed.

White Lake Ordinance 22 has only allowed copper as an approved water service material since March 15th 1958. Around 2002 White Lake began authorizing the use of 200 psi rated HDPE plastic water service line material. White Lake has never authorized the use of lead or lead goosenecks in our water system. To date, White Lake DPS has not located any lead or galvanized services or lead goosenecks in the White Lake Water System. Our investigations and inspections have shown that all of our water services are either K Type Copper or HDPE (Poly). As not all of the services have been physically verified, this is a living document. We would like to hear from you! We encourage all residents find your home on the inventory below and review the information for accuracy. Contact us at 248-698-7700 Extension 8 if you have questions or would like to provide additional information. We will be revising the inventory periodically throughout the year and at least annually.
