Citizens Academy


White Lake Township offers a unique, fun experience to its citizens. Known as the Citizen's Academy, residents of White Lake have the opportunity to experience the lives and work of the firefighters, police officers, and township board members within their community.

The Citizen's Academy was developed in an effort to build mutual understanding and appreciation between the citizens of White Lake Township and the members of White Lake Township's fire department, police department, and township board.

The class is available free of charge to all who live or work in White Lake Township and are at least 21-years of age. The academy consists of a series of classes held once a week for eleven weeks, each class lasting two to three hours in duration.

The fire department portion of the academy includes classroom instruction on fire department operations, fire behavior, fire investigation, and vehicle extrication. Participants will also have the opportunity to get hands-on-practice with vehicle extrication and fire apparatus/hose operations (an academy highlight).
