Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant is online!

Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant

Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant is finally online and serving iron free water to customers in the northern water district. After a long construction project that was plagued by the same material shortages that were happening to every industry over the last couple years, we are very happy to be online and running well. The plant serves the areas of Aspen Meadows, M-59, Worthington Crossing, Twin Lakes Village, Crown Ridge, Suburban Knolls, and Reserve at Tull Lake. Aspen Meadows is the second iron filtration plant in the system. Village Acres Iron Filtration Plant went online in 2017. The Aspen Meadows plant cost approximately $5,000,000 to construct.

The Aspen Meadows Iron Filtration Plant can produce up to 2.88 million gallons per day of iron free drinking water. The process is incredibly efficient and uses very little chemicals and backwash waste. This makes the plant less expensive to operate compared to other processes, savings which ultimately are passed on the the customers. White Lake has some of the lowest water rates in all of Oakland County. With this new plant, we will now have some outstanding water quality as well!

We expect it to take about a year or two rounds of hydrant flushing to get the iron out of the mains from the previous well system. We will remove the majority of this beginning around April 1st during spring hydrant flushing. The water quality will continue to improve throughout the summer and into the fall. By winter, regular rusty water stir-up should be a thing of the past.
