Coulter Declares State Of Emergency As County Moves To Assist Residents, Communities And Businesses Affected By COVID-19

Mar 13, 2020, 11:48 AM

Pontiac, Michigan – Oakland County Executive David Coulter today declared a state of emergency in the county, allowing him to shift resources quickly to assist residents, businesses and communities affected by the spread of the coronavirus.  Coulter said the declaration was necessary to open a path for federal funds, should they become available.

The county has established the Oakland County Help Hotline – 248-858-1000 – to address non-health needs of the general public such as food or housing assistance.

Fire Hydrant Flushing
FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING

Please check this website www.whitelaketwp.com or the Township Facebook Page: whitelaketwp for daily updates.

We understand that more residents are home due to the COVID-19 outbreak and that this will likely increase the number of rusty water complaints during this flushing process. However, we need to move forward with flushing in order to have it completed before the warm summer months to maintain our best water quality. We appreciate your patience during this critical water quality procedure!

Public Advisory Regarding Lead and Copper

White Lake Department of Public Services (DPS) has recently issued a Public Education flyer regarding the lead action level exceedance notification that we received from State of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) on October 2nd.  This is the second publication required under the administrative rules promulgated under the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399 as amended (Act 399).

White Lake is continuing to work with EGLE and Oakland County Health Division to ensure that we are doing everything that we can to comply with the requirements of the rule. Oakland County health Division has completed their sampling in the three homes that tested over the action level for lead in drinking water. The monitoring period for DPS sampling for Lead and Copper for Corrosion Control starts in January 2020.
White Lake DPS would like to assure our customers that we are committed to providing the highest quality, clean, safe drinking water to our residents.

WLT Lead and Copper Public Education

DPS has recently concluded our most recent round of lead and copper monitoring required by PA399 under the new Lead and Copper Rule. Out of twenty samples collected at locations built in 1988 or prior, we had three samples returned that had results for lead over the Action Level in our southernmost district. As a response to this White Lake DPS has issued a Public Advisory about lead to our residents detailing what we have found and what our customers can do.

DPS will increase monitoring in our southern Distribution System #2. A copy of the Public Advisory has been sent out in our water bills yesterday to all of our customers including those in Distribution System #1 even though that area is not affected. A map of the Distribution Systems is included in the Public Advisory at the link below. Please use the online form below if you would like to participate in our next round of sampling.

DPS will be holding a Townhall Meeting at Lakeland High School on Thursday evening October 10th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Experts from White Lake Department of Public Services (DPS), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) as well as Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) will be available for a discussion of the facts and the precautionary measures that we are taking in an effort to protect our residents from any possible health risk. Oakland County experts will be there to answer any health related questions from customers that are concerned about lead and will have filters available to distribute to residences with children or pregnant women that would like one and are not able to afford the cost of a filter.

For more information regarding lead and copper or any other water concern please contact White Lake DPS at 248-698-3300 Ext. 8.

Meeting Agenda

Dear Resident,

Due to the executive order issued by Governor Whitmer ordering everyone to stay home, the Township will be hosting our first virtual Special Board Meeting on March 31, 2020 at 4:00 PM using Zoom Meetings.  You should ensure you have the proper app downloaded for the meeting which I believe is the Zoom Cloud Meeting app.  There are also phone numbers below if you wish to dial into the meeting.  There will be no meeting to attend at the Township as this meeting will be held entirely on-line.

Please read the instructions (here) very thoroughly, especially if you wish to participate in the public comment portion of the meeting so that you understand what to do prior to the meeting.

This is the first time we are doing an on-line board meeting so please be patient.  It will be a learning experience for all.

The agenda is posted on our website with all of the attachments for you to view and/or print prior to the meeting.

Make Your Recycling Count!

Did you know that when recycling isn't done properly the excess goes back to the garbage dump?  This creates an added expense for the garbage company which in turn may end up being passed on to residents.

2020 Census

2020 US CENSUS

Ensuring an accurate count of Michigander’s is important because roughly $30 billion in federal funding for public safety, schools, housing, healthcare, and more, as well as one congressional seat, are at stake for Michigan.

In preparation for the 2020 Census, the State of Michigan has launched a new website to provide information and resources to Michiganders. The website is available throughout the census-taking season so residents can have their questions answered, keep up-to-date on the latest census news, and gain a better understanding of the importance of the census. To find out more information about the census or to get involved, please go to https://www.michigan.gov/census2020.

The website is one piece of a larger effort to ensure that every Michigander is counted. In particular, the “Count Me In” campaign seeks to let Michigan residents know that responding to the census this year is convenient, confidential, and CRITICAL to the future of our state.

Residents can fill out the census in multiple languages online, by phone, or on a paper form. All answers are completley confidential. By law, the data can be collected for statistical purposes only and cannot be used against a person. The Census Bureau cannot share or publish any household-specific census data, even to other government agencies.

Census takers are needed to have a sussessful 2020 Census. There are also other important jobs avaialable. Census takers in the Oakland County area make $22.00-$24.50 an hour. The jobs are part-time and flexible. Students, seniors, and anyone looking for flexible employment is welcome to apply.

To apply for a census job, please visit, https://2020census.gov/en/jobs/job-details.html.
