Hess-Hathaway Park

165 acre community-wide park located in Waterford Township on Williams Lake Road.

Highland State Recreation Area, Oakland County

This state recreation area has 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes in the rolling hills of Southern Michigan. Miles of trails to accommodate equestrian riders, mountain bikers, hikers and skiers, there's an activity for every season in this park. Three marked x-country skiing trails for the novice and intermediate skiers. Three different day-use areas provide ample space for picnics, swimming, horseshoes or volleyball. Dog trials, metal detecting, and snowmobiling in designated areas. Rustic 30 site campground is available to campers with and without horses. Access sites are located on four lakes within the park for fishing and recreational boating.

Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area, Oakland County

This 3,700-acre park is home to a mixture of marshes, ponds, forests, old farm fields and lakes that support a variety of wildlife and excellent hunting opportunities.  It is also home to the longest beach in southeast Michigan at just over a 1/2 mile.  Activities available include hiking, biking and equestrian trails, a modern campground, a model airplane flying field, a rustic equestrian campground, an expansive picnic area, an off-leash (fenced) area for dogs and much more.  Blazing Trails operates the park's riding stable and offers guided and group horseback rides over scenic overlooks, pony rides and more.  The 11-mile mountain bike trail has been ranked as one of the "Top 100 Trails" in the United States and is considered one of the most technical trails in southeast Michigan.
